Learning Logs #34-35

Weeks 34-35

Snorkeling in Ilha Grande, Brazil!

We were all very tired after our 9 hour, overnight flight to Buenos Aires

One of many butterflies Daniel found on our trip in South America - we used the Seek app to find out its species!

A funny picture from swimming in the pool

A Jerusalem beetle Daniel found in Santos, Brazil

A giant month he found on our cruise!

This amazing tree was in Ilhabela, Brazil!

On the schooner to go snorkeling in Ilha Grande

This little girl didn’t speak much English. There were so many nationalities in our ship! But Daniel had no trouble making friends - from playing Marco Polo in the pool to giant chess on the upper deck to the kids’ zone, he showed us that communicating is about more than just language!

Our first stop during our stay in Rio de Janeiro- Daniel *loves* pao de queijo (Brazilian cheese bread) so this moment made him extremely happy!

A many hundreds of years old library!

This is a tile staircase in Rio, made famous by an artist who passes away 11 years ago. 12 years ago, Daniel’s dad and I came to Rio and saw this for the first time. When we got home, Brian custom made a tile for the staircase and mailed it to the artist. We never heard back and he died shortly after so we kind of assumed our tile was lost. When we came back on this trip, we kept our eyes open for it and sure enough, we found it!!!!!

A close up of the tile

The view from the middle of Sugar Loaf!

The heat and humidity wore him out!

Christ the Redeemer statue!

A picture from the steps of the Christ statue

Interacting with a quati! We were told there isn’t an equivalent animal in the US. Daniel loved it!!

We went to this family’s house and met the kids and had a Brazilian BBQ! They are so wonderful

He has another “break the language barrier” moment here. Playing soccer and looking for bugs doesn’t need much talking!

The Rio temple! ❤️❤️

On our helicopter ride!!

A bird’s eye view of the Christ statue

We had lunch at another family’s house and Daniel snuggled their bunny most of the time, lol!

Wiped out!

A fun tricycle at a wildlife park!

Daniel loved every creature he met!!

Water fall at a national park!

The whole little family!)

They were right! Their cookies are amazing!

The church building we hung out in on Sunday!

Church clothes and Rio’s heat and humidity don’t mix too well!

Getting on our international flight!

Argentina’s flag!

Our ship

First time at teppanyakis. He loved it!

His homeschool packet on Uruguay. :)
