Week 11 Grappling hook! Daniel and his dad made this grappling hook - and it works! A quick picture of one of the poses in the Moana play Daniel is in - this is from the “Shiny” number.  Building a Halloween clubhouse in our front yard! Daniel decided to build a food chain! Daniel bought this insect photo book in the homeschool store this week. He’s going to do a report on one of the bugs he is learning about! He also bought this replica dagger from Medieval Times - he was soo happy to have finally earned this!  In this lesson, he was supposed to see if he could play with his eyes closed - he can! We have started learning about decimals and how they relate to fractions - and Daniel is nailing it! In this piano lesson, Daniel had to play blindfolded! Daniel has a pet snake and whenever we get new mice for him, we also get dry ice! Daniel got to go through an amazing Jumanji VR experience! It was awesome! Daniel’s highlights! On a personal note, next week I am having surge...

Week 10 Fourth grade pictures came in this week! So handsome.   Daniel found this snake in our yard!!  I think there was some kind of "emergency" here, but this picture showcases some of Daniel's Lego creations - some are made from instructions, most he just put together himself. He is very creative and loves building with Legos! Lots of Mancala this week - he wants to do a round robin tournament, lol. The weather was great this week! Daniel went to the park and found all these wasp nests that he knocked down and then brought home. Being a boy mom is no joke! We found this mushrooms on our walk and used the Seek app to identify them as Shaggy Mane mushrooms. Still working on fractions! They are coming to him easier now though. Cheering at the BYU football game! Zipline! Rock climbing! Brian and Daniel with our favorite football player, Tyler Batty! He used to be our neighbor before he left for college. Daniel's highlights! PS - Daniel said that he thinks the mystery a...

Week 9 In math, we’ve been going over fractions and comparing them when they have the same denominators or numerators. Our fraction blocks have come in handy! This is our second monarch! From caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly! This butterfly was a little weak so we tried to help strengthen it by giving it sugar water and letting it rest while it’s wings dried.  Daniel used the Seek app to identify the butterfly as a monarch! In social studies Daniel has been doing some map reading. He’s been switching between physical maps and political maps in order to answer questions about US regions. He was pretty excited when he found this world map so he put it up in his “Harry Potter” room (room under the stairs in our basement).  Daniel made a staff and a note to put on the staff out of Play Dough as part of his piano lesson this week! Daniel needed new shoes and it turns out he needed them to be two sizes bigger than the ones he has been wearing! We decided to compare our fe...

Week 8 Daniel doing a “daddy challenge” at the park! In this one, he was supposed to scale the green mountain with a bucket on his head. 😂 Dads are the best.  Fishing at the creek! We added a new chord in piano that uses Daniel’s “I love you” fingers.  A picture of shopping day! Daniel left his $100 in the bank of mom to earn more interest but still had enough to buy his sticker book, a Lego set, and the latest mystery item which was an awesome magnetic puzzle box that makes over 70 shapes! The mornings are getting colder so Daniel often does school in his jacket, lol. Daniel put together a disc launcher this week! He’s opening the target sheet in this picture.  We measure Daniel every six months - he’s grown almost an inch and a half! Our church lesson was on Ephesians and putting on the whole armor of God. Daniel helped his dad build/find armor to use for his church lesson! Daniel's highlights!

Week 7 The butterfly emerged from her chrysalis!! Daniel was very gentle with her and so happy to hold her! This is when she flew away! After school, Daniel got to shop at our homeschool store and he had saved enough to buy this Jurassic Park Lego kit plus the mystery item! He added the police lights to it and it didn’t take him long at all to finish the kit! A former police officer friend came over to add to Daniel’s challenge coin collection! He was pretty thrilled.  For part of piano practice this week, Daniel got to play upside down! It helps him play without looking at his hands and he thought it was so cool.  We got to put another Tinker Crate together this week! This one was a “glowing pendulum”, which was actually a double pendulum which made some really cool designs! Just one of the fun designs - never the same twice! We got to take a little friend to the creek with us and Daniel caught some fish for him! We released them back into the creek shortly after but I...
