South Family Homeschool - 6th Grade!

Week 6 Daniel found another monarch caterpillar while at the park with friends this week!   He brought it home and put it in the same habitat as the other chrysalis. He also ran to the creek to get some milkweed for it - twice! Cause that caterpillar was very hungry!! Daniel found a crawdad at our creek and was worried enough about it that he wanted to keep it in the homeschool room with us while he worked. I love watching him rehearse for his play! He's doing so great. Daniel had an idea to create a light-weight wagon so he could pull things while he rode his bike, It worked! He was very excited about that. This is the second crawdad Daniel has found at our creek this week! Third overall. I didn't even know our creek had crawdads!! The new caterpillar moved to the top of the container and is starting to form his chrysalis! And here he is! Amazing. We've been taking a lot of walks lately - loving the fall weather!  WEEK 5 We learned about perspective when Daniel saw this snake is the roof of a house in our neighborhood. From this angle, it did *not* look like a snake! But Daniel was persistent and from this angle, it looks more like a snake! And from this angle, he was able to determine that it is actually a toy cobra snake. Which he was disappointed with, lol. He was really hoping it was real and alive! We had an awesome lightning storm last week! We spent some time outside taking slow motion videos so we could see the lightning better.  These three pictures are all the same lightning strike, just at different moments: My sister came to visit! And Daniel enjoyed snuggling her - a lot. Me too!! We moved out of our office so my sister could have her own space while she was here, so Daniel set up shop in the kitchen! Week 4 Monday is shopping day! Daniel learned about interest this week when he put 100 homeschool bucks into the “bank of mom” so that it would grow 5 bucks interest over the week. This is the Southern Monarch caterpillar Daniel found at our creek! He made sure to bring milkweed home for it, too.  Playing with his dinner, lol.  He added a new chord to his piano practice this week! Daniel conquered each path of this rock wall in about a minute each - he’s a rock climbing rockstar! Learning to play chess is more fun when the pieces and board are so big! We are finishing two bedrooms in our basement and Daniel learned about painting! Daniel came with me to my ENT appointment and learned a little bit about our lymphatic system.  Our monarch caterpillar is inside its chrysalis! Daniel's highlights!

  WEEK 3! Daniel made a thank you note for the photographer at the football game. I think it made his day!! Learning about the physics of motion and force inside this bouncing ball! Being brave and feeling like he “had no gravity” at our local children’s carnival.  This is a snake Daniel found at the creek by our house. We have the Seek app that allows us to identify what type of snake it is. This particular snake got lost in our house 😱 but Daniel found it and saved us all! Staying hydrated during our computer work - mostly I just love that smile.  He bought a flint and steel set with the South Family Homeschool Bucks he earned last week so he learned how to start a fire in our backyard with his dad!  Daniel created a lot of new creatures in Night Zookeeper this week!  Daniel’s choir got to perform at our city’s festival!
