Learning Log # 35 and 36

 Weeks 35 & 36

These last two weeks were *amazing*! I’m so grateful for homeschooling. It makes it so much easier to have these adventures and do this kind of learning!

We went to a couple of cities in Fiji, but due to some miscommunications with our tour guide, we only saw a few things. But we ate fruit from the local farmer’s market, saw our church building, chatted with locals, and visited the temple there! It was beautiful.

We got to do a crazy special dining experience! They projected a little cartoon show onto our plates and we watched a tiny chef make all our food! That was crazy and fun.

Then we visited the Samoas and had 2 April 18ths because we crossed the international date line! Crazy pants. Daniel wrote some postcards to a couple friends and got them mailed off.  He found more hermit crabs and chatted with the local law enforcement!

After that we had 5 days at sea in a row and that was crazy! Daniel learned how to play bocci ball and did a ton of swimming! We also put together a little Easter Sunday service with other members of our church that we met on the ship and that was really special.

Then we crossed the equator! There’s a tradition where we kiss the fish and become shellbacks and are inducted into Neptune’s court (although we prefer Poseidon lol).

We got a tour of the ship’s bridge and that was so cool! Daniel even got to stand right next to the “mini-wheel” that they use to steer the ship! And the view up there is fantastic.

Our last stop was in Kona, Hawaii. We celebrated our family’s 23rd birthday there! We went to a local farmer’s market and ate all the fruit! We hung out at a beach and caught crabs and day geckos. Brian and Daniel went kayaking out in the ocean! And we had real Hawaiian shaved ice - Hawaiian sunset flavored. It was fabulous.

The next day we flew home from Honolulu! It’s bittersweet to be home, but are sure glad to see our dog, Mel!
